Ecotox Centre at the Pharm-ERA Summer School in Malta
Two weeks ago, the Ecotox Centre had the pleasure of contributing to the Pharm-ERA Doctoral Network Summer School in environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology, and risk assessment in Malta.
The contamination of soil and water by pharmaceuticals, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and pathogens is an urgent problem threatening both our environment and human health. The Pharm-ERA project brings together scientists, public and private stakeholders and EU policymakers to tackle this critical issue. With 10 PhD projects spanning environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology, microbial ecology, molecular biology, and modelling, the project is driving innovation in monitoring techniques and advancing environmental risk assessment.
Funded by the European Union under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Networks and led by INRAE, the Pharm-ERA consortium brings together 9 beneficiaries and 6 associated partners. This unique partnership ensures a strong balance between academia and industry, offering an exceptional set of interdisciplinary skills to address pharmaceutical pollution.
