New projects to assess water quality

The Ecotox Centre has launched several new projects to improve the assessment of water quality. On the one hand, molecular biomarkers in brown trout are used to assess the exposure of juvenile trout in streams in agricultural areas. On the other hand, the researchers analyse the water quality at these sites (and other sites with urban or mixed pollution) with an extensive battery of bioassays for water and sediments. For comparison, the methods are also used at unpolluted reference sites. The projects will make it possible to obtain an overall view of the water quality at the selected sites. The aim is to propose ideal bioassay batteries for water and sediment that are specific to the sources of pollution in Switzerland.
