Panel Discussion "Gewässer in Gefahr" 3.11., 19.00
On Monday, 3 November at 7 p.m., Cornelia Kienle will take part in the Körber-Foundation's panel discussion "Gewässer in Gefahr" in Hamburg.
Microplastics and chemicals, pharmaceutical residues, fertilisers and pesticides – hardly any river, lake or ocean in the world is spared from these pollutants. These pollutants are often difficult to break down and even modern sewage treatment plants are unable to filter them out sufficiently. Over the years, they accumulate in soil and water, damaging sensitive ecosystems and ultimately endangering human health.
What technologies can help reduce this pollution and improve water quality in the long term? What political and legal measures are necessary to oblige companies to comply with strict environmental standards so that pollution does not occur in the first place?
The other participants in the discussion, which will be moderated by science journalist Lena Ganschow, are Kim Augustin, Head of Management Systems and Technologies, HAMBURG WASSER, and Wolfgang Köck, environmental lawyer, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ).
