Korean scientist visits

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Youn-Joo An from Konkuk University (Seoul, Korea) to the Ecotox Centre in Lausanne. Prof. An, an ecotoxicologist, is a member of the ISO/TC 190 on soil quality, where she participates in several working groups on ecotoxicological testing of soil functions and ecosystem services— working groups where we also actively contribute through our soil expert, Mathieu Renaud.

The visit provided a great opportunity to present our laboratories and discuss ongoing research activities. Prof. An’s research interests include bioassays using soil microalgae and the effects of chemicals on the earthworm immune system, both of which open valuable perspectives for future research and methodological development. On our side, Prof. An was particularly interested in the normal operating ranges we are currently establishing for bioindicators to better distinguish between the impacts of chemicals and the effects of soil heterogeneity.

The discussions were highly enriching, and we identified several promising avenues for future collaboration. We look forward to continuing these exchanges, both within and beyond our work at ISO.
