Hormonally Active Substances

Hormonally Active Substances

Another emphasis of the Ecotox Centre is the assessment and further development of suitable methods for identifying the effect of hormonally active substances in wastewater and surface water. Due their structure and mode of action, these substances have a similar effect on organisms as hormones or influence the hormonal balance and may, for example, cause the feminisation of male fish. Before such substances can be routinely detected in practice, it is necessary to systematically compare, standardise and implement the existing bioassays for the measurement of hormonally active substances.
