Podcast on PFAS in drinking water
How do PFAS end up in the environment and in drinking water? And what can be done about it? Ecotox Centre scientist Alexandra Kroll and former cantonal chemist Kurt Seiler explain why limit values are not enough and where we need to start earlier. In the Swiss Academy of Sciences' sustainability podcast, the two discuss how PFAS end up in our drinking water and what we can do about it.
Alexandra Kroll explains the risks of PFAS and why they have a long-term effect and are hardly degraded. Kurt Seiler shows what the measured concentrations in Switzerland mean, what effects limit values have and why the protection of drinking water must start at the source. Together, they make it clear that dealing with PFAS does not begin when limit values are exceeded, but with the products we manufacture and use, and that as a society we need a completely new approach to dealing with chemicals that do not degrade in the environment.
