Evaluation of composite materials for coastal protection
Climate change and the associated rise in sea levels are increasing the risk of coastal erosion and flooding. Coastal protection structures can help mitigate such consequences. A novel hybrid technology is intended to meet the demand for such structures more quickly and in a more environmentally friendly way. The technology utilises novel composite materials, which are combined with dredged material or concrete/mortar. EPFL has produced various composite materials for this purpose, which the Ecotox Centre has leached and is testing the leachates for toxicity.
