Are wood preservatives toxic to soil organisms?

To protect wood as a building material from fungal and bacterial decay, various biocides are used. Those biocides can get into the soil by direct contact or by leaching, where they pose a potential risk for soil organisms and thus for soil health. The Ecotox Centre has investigated which biocides are mostly used in wood preservatives in Switzerland and how these affect soil organisms.
